Cybertruck: We Can’t Stop Thinking About It No Matter How Hard We Try

Cybertruck: We Can’t Stop Thinking About It No Matter How Hard We Try

The Cybertruck fits firmly into both the cool and dumb camps. Conceptually, it looks cool. And if it ultimately delivers on all of its performance claims, it will be a very cool feat of engineering.

Is it cool or is it silly? We can't decide.

The Cybertruck fits firmly into both the cool and dumb camps. Conceptually, it looks cool. And if it ultimately delivers on all of its performance claims, it will be a very cool feat of engineering.

But also it’s called the Cybertruck, which seems like something a kid would call their imaginary truck/spaceship. And maybe that’s how they came up with the name.

The Cybertruck Is Silly

From the name to all the little unfortunate clips and soundbytes along the way there are so many absolutely silly Cybertruck stories. But our favorite is probably Musk and co. breaking the Cybertruck’s window at a press conference specifically touting the truck’s indestructibility.

The Cybertruck Is Seriously Cool

But on the other hand, the video showing off all the Space Camper (Space Camper?) features is incredible. It’s basically a tiny house that fits in the bed of the truck.

The 14,000-pound towing capacity and 3,500-pound payload capacity are impressive.

And it’s got the solar panel thing on the bed which is super cool and futuristic.

The Cybertruck Is Kind Of Nerdy

Stealth plane + Halo Warthog = Tesla Cybertruck

And then there’s the fact that the truck looks like a Nighthawk stealth plane crossed with the warthog truck from the HALO video game franchise.

And the interior is a little weird, but also super cool and sci-fi.

This is truly what happens when you give someone who grew up playing video games unlimited money.

And Then It’s Cool Again

We can laugh about building a real life, commercial production version of a video game truck, but then we see a video of the truck in full off-road mode with its suspension lifted four inches and think, “Dang, that’s cool.”

And Then It’s Silly Again

But then we see testers taking it “offroad” and it’s just them carefully hopping a curb in the Tesla parking lot. That’s a lot of hype for one careful curb hop.

And The Cybertruck Is Behind Schedule

Plus, the truck is something like two years behind production schedule, which this NYT article compares to the previous incident in 2018 when “his determination to build a highly automated assembly line for the Model 3 sedan led to “production hell” and nearly killed the company before he opted for more standard manufacturing practices.”

Most experts blame these delays on Musk’s insistence the Cybertruck body be built from stainless steel, which hasn’t been used on a car since the ill-fated (but popular amongst fellow 80s pop-culture fanatics) DeLorean.

DeLorean went bankrupt almost immediately after launch.

Meanwhile, more modest (but still plenty flashy) EVs like the Rivian (US) and Radar RD6 (China) are hitting the market and picking up early EV market share.

We’d Definitely Still Drive a Cybertruck

The fact of the matter is, we’d drive a Cybertruck — especially if it had one of those Space Campers on it.

Tesla is counting on the same sentiment from the rest of the market. Is this Elon Musk-inspired engineering behemoth wild enough to spark Tesla sales once again? We won’t find out until it hits the market.

Carmigo Hits 4,000 Cars Sold Milestone

Carmigo Hits 4,000 Cars Sold Milestone

We just sold our 4,000th car on the Carmigo marketplace. And this achievement comes after months of industry-wide slowdowns and price drops.

And we’re well on our way to 5,000!

We just sold our 4,000th car on the Carmigo marketplace.

The thing we’re proudest of is having this achievement come after months of industry-wide slowdowns and price drops.

We knew we could sell cars when the market was favorable. But now we’ve proven we can continue to make the process easy for our sellers while returning more-than-competitive offers no matter the conditions.

Here’s what our CEO and co-founder, Andrew Warmath said:

“Last year was an exciting ride, seeing the used car market reach stratospheric highs before plummeting back to earth. We got to experience that unprecedented growth. But then we were quickly forced to adapt and innovate in order to grow when other companies in our industry were struggling.”

Carmigo sold just over 1,000 cars in our first year of operations after launching in January 2021. Now, after only one more year, we’ve quadrupled those sales.

We think it’s our unique approach to business that helped us weather the storm. Instead of holding inventory like most online used car buyers, we focus on creating a simple transaction without creating excess inventory.

More from Andrew on what sets Carmigo apart:

“What makes us different is that we’re not focused on the sale. We’re focused on making the transaction easy and beneficial for both parties. Coming from a dealership background, we know how hard it is to inspect and stock quality used cars, so we want to bring lot-ready cars to our dealership partners. We also know how hard it can be to sell your car. So Carmigo works to make it easier for everyone by connecting these two needs at scale.”

This difference also allows us to charge a flat buyer and seller fee instead of relying on margins that fluctuate from transaction to transaction.

Do you have a car you’re thinking of selling? Your car could be 4,001

Well, we’ve already sold 4,001. Heck, in the time it took us to put all this together, we already started talking about the 5,000 cars sold blog post.

But you can join the car-selling revolution and list your car in as little as 15 minutes to start getting offers today.

We’re Giving Away Air Fresheners to Celebrate

And if you’re not selling, you can still celebrate by grabbing a free air freshener here.

Our Process Is Built on Feedback

We can’t celebrate this milestone without acknowledging all of the feedback we’ve gotten from buyers and sellers. A significant portion of the updates made to the Carmigo Marketplace over the past two years has come from the feedback we’ve received.

We’ve been lucky to work with folks who are willing to provide constructive feedback when things go good or bad, and that has been critical.

We are proud of the tools and marketplace we’ve built. And we’re thankful for all the buyers and sellers who have trusted us with their cars. They’ve all given us incredible feedback along the way.

A Love Letter to Our Sellers

A Love Letter to Our Sellers

Valentine's Day is here, and it has us in our feels about our 568 five-star reviews.

Happy Valentines

We get new love letters from our sellers every week. You can read them on our website or on Google Reviews,

But we want to turn that around on our sellers.

Because our sellers are always saying how we have a “smooth and simple process” and are the “easiest car-selling experience.”

Well, here’s the truth, our sellers make it easy to build a better car-selling experience with their incredible feedback.

They tell us we proved ourselves trustworthy by making them feel “secure about it from beginning to end,” even though they were “a little apprehensive making a deal such as this online.”

Well it’s thanks in large part to the trust of our amazing buyers and sellers that we’re able to keep growing and keep innovating our marketplace.

And the common refrain of “amazing customer service” in those love letters is so sweet. But we have to say, you’ve all been a pleasure to work with. It’s easy to do our job when we have trusting sellers who stay engaged with us from beginning to end.

And it’s a joy to implement new features that were specifically requested by our buyers and sellers. That’s how we know we’re onto something special.

And to that handful of you who left us less than five-star love letters, or worse, breakup letters, we want you to know we’ve changed. You were right, and we’ve grown.

Carmigo’s Marketing Manager talks shop on the Pathmonk Podcast

Carmigo’s Marketing Manager talks shop on the Pathmonk Podcast

Austin shared his thoughts on creating seamless customer experiences, how Carmigo works, and why you should drop out of college.

The nice folks over at Pathmonk had our Marketing Manager, Austin Hille, on their podcast this week, which was great. Lucas and Austin talked about the Carmigo website’s role in guiding our sellers through our car-selling experience.  “A lot of folks are trepidation because we’re new,” Austin said. “So we have to answer all their questions and then provide a transparent and seamless journey through the listing process.”

His main takeaways:

  1. Experience is the greatest educator in business and marketing.
  2. Good copy can’t explain away a bad customer experience.
“Yes, sometimes there is a lead time in fixing functionality, but what’s not viable is having the marketing team try to explain it away. Customers are willing to go down a little bit of a longer journey if you’re being clear about everything they’re getting and everything they’re being charged for.” He also told everyone to drop out of college (which is way less intense in context)! But you do you.

We’re Thankful for You. Yes, You.

We’re Thankful for You. Yes, You.

Thank you to our sellers, to our buyers, to our network of partners who keep our marketplace alive every day.

Seriously, it’s been a fun year and we owe that to a lot of you.

Thanks.

Thanks, to our sellers, to our buyers, to our network of partners who keep our marketplace alive every day.

Thanks for the 5-star reviews. Thanks for sharing the word about Carmigo.

Here’s what Andrew (Carmigo’s founder and CEO) said about how important those reviews are:

“Selling your car is a big decision, so we’ve had to build this company on customer trust and customer service. And because of the trust we’ve built, we’ve seen so much growth through word of mouth.”

Thanks to everyone who left us honest and constructive feedback on the process and the app itself. Each new software release feels more like a collaboration than something wholly ours.

It’s been a fun year. So here’s to you. Have a safe and restful holiday season.

Mississippi Pot Roast — We’re Loving Fall

Mississippi Pot Roast — We’re Loving Fall

When the temperatures hit 50 the crockpot comes out. And the first thing on the menu is usually Mississippi Pot Roast.

What We're Loving: The Mississippi Pot Roast

Table of Contents

When the morning temperatures drop into the 50s and leaves start to turn, something happens in most Southern homes — the crockpot becomes a permanent countertop fixture. And the first thing on the menu is usually Mississippi Pot Roast.

Making Mississippi Pot Roast is barely making anything at all, and it’s so easy. Plus, it’s just the most delicious way to cook a roast.

The Easiest Mississippi Pot Roast Recipe

Our go-to recipe uses five ingredients, but you can put any extra veggies or seasonings you want for some added razzle-dazzle (I use carrots, mushrooms, and onions because I like drama).

Just use whatever feeds your autumnal soul.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 chuck roast
  • 1 packet of ranch mix
  • 1 packet of au jus mix
  • ¼ cup of butter (more like ½, amirite?)
  • 4-5 pepperoncini peppers
  • Any fall veggies your heart desires (but add them after 6-7 hours, or they’ll turn into baby food)

Instructions

Read this very carefully, or it won’t come out right:

  1. Put the ingredients in your crock pot.
  2. Turn the crock pot on low and then go away for eight hours.

The Mississippi Pot Roast Is Easy

We’re not exactly executive chefs at Carmigo, so you better believe this is what we’re making when we find out the in-laws are making a surprise trip or if we get busy and forget to prep dinner.

I’m not sure if it’s the entire ranch packet, the au jus mix, or the pepperoncini — but something about a Mississippi Pot Roast just feels like the month of October walked into your house, lit a pumpkin spice candle and gave you a fleece blanket to cozy up under while you watch Hocus Pocus 2.

We’re not here to question the spooky sorcery in that crock pot cauldron. We’re just here to tell you that you should try it if you haven’t.

BONUS: You don’t have to do any prep work, which makes it almost too easy. Just put the ingredients in the cauldron and then do literally anything else. Now that we think about it, it’s like selling your car on Carmigo.

Tupelo — As Good a Place to Start as Any

Tupelo — As Good a Place to Start as Any

Our local Airline, Contour, says of their hometown, “We’ve all got to start somewhere, it might as well be Tupelo.” We couldn't agree more.

What We’re Loving | Contour Airlines’ Tupelo Destination Page

Table of Contents

The crew at Contour Airlines wrote a blog post/essay/love letter for each of its destinations. And their Tupelo post has been making its rounds in the Carmigo office because of the line, “We’ve all got to start somewhere, it might as well be Tupelo.”

We couldn’t agree more (after all, we started Carmigo in Tupelo).

Every Beginning Has a Place, Ours Is TupeIo

In the creative/startup/entrepreneurial scene, we spend a lot of time discussing what we’ll do. We talk about ideas, and we set benchmarks for pursuing those ideas, like:

  • “I’ll move to a big city after college, and then I’ll start playing music.”
  • “I’ll plan my passion project once I’ve been promoted to the VP level.”
  • “One day, I’ll quit my job and pursue my million-dollar idea.”

And sure, it’s hard to find an audience for your atonal prog-rock band in Selmer, Tennessee, but that doesn’t mean you have to put your ideas on hold.

Don’t let your time or place keep you from putting your idea into the world—starting your first business, writing the first draft of that book, or building the best car-selling platform on the internet.

Tupelo Has a Local Airline?

Contour Airlines is a Tupelo classic. They haven’t been around as long as the other mainstays, but they’ve been around a lot longer than Carmigo and helped many Tupelo folk get around.

One time, one of those standard airport mixups held the plane up in another city. So they pulled their private Learjet (that Bon Jovi once chartered) out of the garage and flew us to Nashville in a matter of seconds.

Contour Airlines makes travel easy, and we love easy.

You Want 5-Star Reviews? We’ve Got Plenty

Carmigo is the easiest way to sell your car on the internet. But don’t take our word for it. More than 500 other people think so too.

What We’re Loving: Carmigo hits the 500 5-star review mark.

Table of Contents

The word is out. Carmigo is the easiest way to sell your car on the internet. And you don’t have to take our word for it because we’ve got 500 other people who think so too.  It took us more than a year to get to 400 5-star reviews, and then it only took two more months to hit 500.  We’re proud of the platform we’ve built because it’s helped so many people save time, reduce stress, and even make some extra money selling their cars.  At Carmigo, making things easier is a driving mission, and it’s something everyone in the company is trying to do. So when we see reviews specifically talking about how easy or stress-free our process is, it feels good.  Like this review from Aaron M. last week:  “Surprisingly easy, Hassle-free experience and great customer service 👍” Here’s another new 5-star review from Stefanie S: “I was a bit wary of online car sales. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to sell my car! IN ADDITION, Carmigo was able to sell my car for $2000.00 MORE than any other dealership. I would recommend this company to everyone. FIVE STARS!”

There Has to be a Better Way

Carmigo started when our CEO began to notice frustration on both sides of the car-selling process. And not just the kind of frustration that happens when you wait on hold for a service provider. He heard from sellers who had trade-in experiences that ruined their weeks and even saw a disagreement come to fisticuffs at a wholesale auction.  The whole process was terrible for everyone. That’s why he started Carmigo, to make things easier for both sides.

500 5-Star Reviews

We’ve written about our 5-star customer reviews before, and we’ll probably do it again. It’s not because we want to brag (okay, maybe we want to brag a little). But mostly we’re excited because we want to spread the word that there truly is an easier way to sell your car.  And we look at all our reviews, even the stinkers. That’s right, we’ve made platform, policy, and workflow changes based on our less-than-stellar reviews. If our system isn’t working for everyone, it’s not working.
@gocarmigo For this installment of What We’re Working On, we are discussing transportation improvements. This opportunity to improve Carmigo is all thanks to responsive sellers like you. #improvements #fixedit4ya #carmigo #transportation ♬ Bright and Positive Hip Hop 3 minutes (background music) – MPmedia
To truly make Carmigo an easier selling experience for everyone, we have to keep our ears open to our sellers, buyers, and potential customers we’ve missed out on. The ones who found a glitch in the system or a friction point in our customer service.  So give us a shot. And just as importantly, let us know how we did. We’re not fishing for compliments. We’re fishing for feedback.

What We’re Loving: A Successful Investment Round

What We’re Loving: A Successful Investment Round

Our first round of funding is in the books and the money is in the bank. We raised $7 million in investments and we couldn’t be more excited.

Carmigo Raised $7 Million in Latest Investment Round

Table of Contents

Carmigo’s first round of investment is in the books, and the money is in the bank.

We raised $7 million in our latest round of investments, and we couldn’t be more excited. And yes, millions of dollars is exciting. But we’re even more excited about what that money means.

It means we can keep making our car-selling platform easier to use. We can make it even easier for sellers to get multiple offers on their cars, and for dealerships to keep used cars in stock.

Investment in Our Idea

This investment means sellers are responding positively to our product, which wasn’t always a given.

Two years ago, our founders, Andrew, Daniel, and Sean, got a crazy idea to create a wholesale marketplace that exists entirely in a cell phone web browser.

And they did it. And not only does it work, but it works great.

Right on the tail of closing this investment round, we’ll break the 500 5-Star reviews mark.

What started as a crazy idea is turning out to be a helpful tool for people who need to sell their cars.

Room to Innovate

This $7 million investment in Carmigo also shows that we have room to innovate even more. We can dedicate resources to making our app easier or open the platform to new groups.

With this investment, we can dedicate even more time to honing the experience so that it’s the best way to sell your car on the internet.

And we’ve begun implementing significant changes, thanks to feedback from both buyers and sellers.

We’ve seen interest in using Carmigo from businesses and organizations in new industries. This investment means we can spend more time making Carmigo work for even more people.

Investment in Carmigo’s Future

Here’s what our CEO Andrew had to say about it, “This round close is a significant milestone for Carmigo. We are proud of what we have built, but this recent investment makes us excited for what’s to come.”

Thank you for being a part of building the best auto marketplace on the internet. We’re excited to continue making it better.

Fuel Lock: The Gas Saving Secret 7-Eleven Doesn’t Want You to Know About

In some markets, Fuel Lock will guarantee the lowest gas price in your area for four days at any participating 7-Eleven.

If you live in one of the test markets (or Australia, apparently), the 7-Eleven app has a new Fuel Lock feature.

In some markets, Fuel Lock will guarantee the lowest gas price in your area for four days at any participating 7-Eleven.

To be fair, 7-Eleven probably wants Rewards members in their test markets to know about this, and they just haven’t publicly announced any rollout details in the U.S.

And since gas prices are unstable, any amount of savings or stability is welcome. The national average was $4.75 on July 7, 2022.

Fuel Lock 7-Eleven

Can I Use Fuel Lock at My 7-Eleven?

That’s a great question. Fuel Lock is a cool feature, but we’ve only been able to find it in the Dallas-Forth Worth area, which 7-Eleven calls home. And again, Australia — for whatever reason.

To find out if it’s available to you, follow these steps:

Fuel Lock 7-Eleven

  1. Download the 7-Eleven Rewards & Shopping app on the Google or Apple app store.
  2. Open your 7-Eleven Rewards & Shopping app (sign up if new).
  3. Navigate to the fuel tab.
  4. The Price Lock button should be beneath your available savings summary (if available in your area).

If you’re able to use this feature and live outside the Dallas-Forth Worth metro area, reach out to let us know so we can update this post.

Even if you can’t lock in fuel savings in your area yes, you can still save. With the rewards app, you’ll get 11 cents knocked off each gallon for your first 7 trips (get it?). And then you’ll get a 3-cent-per-gallon discount every time you fill up at 7Eleven after that.

Free Slurpee day at 7-Eleven is July 11

Did You Say Free Slurpee?

Whether you can lock in your fuel price or not, the 7-Eleven app is worth having this month simply for the free Slurpees.

The rewards app gives users points for every purchase — and with gas prices at all-time highs, those points stack up fast. With 10 points for every dollar spent and 5X points when you pay through the app, you’ll get enough points for a free medium slurpee every time you get gas.

See If You Can Fuel Lock at 7-Eleven

Fuel Lock is a wild card, but the free Slurpee is a sure thing if you use the rewards app. So head to the Google or Apple app store to download the 7-Eleven Rewards & Shopping app.
