Carmigo Named 2023 Emerging 8 Automotive-Technology Company

We’ve been named one of 2023’s eight most innovative companies in the auto-tech space by Cherokee Media Group and we couldn't be happier.

Mississippi-based startup recognized as industry innovator.

We’ve been named one of 2023’s eight most innovative companies in the automotive technology space, according to Cherokee Media Group.

We’re thrilled because the award is given specifically to “companies that improve a specific aspect of the automotive industry through technology,” which is basically our mission statement: Make It Easy.

Here’s what the Cherokee Media Group said about this year’s class — “We are thrilled to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s honorees who are setting new standards for excellence in the automotive industry,” Cherokee Media Group president Bill Zadeits said. “The Emerging 8 award program was developed to fulfill our commitment to honor companies that push the boundaries of innovation.”

This is like giving the Olive Garden an award for treating people like family. That’s the whole thing.

Here’s what our CEO Andrew had to say —“Being named an Emerging 8 company is special to us because it reflects our mission,” said Andrew Warmath, Carmigo founder and CEO. “We have the words ‘Make it easy’ covering a wall in our office because we want to use our technology to make buying and selling cars easier. This recognition affirms our mission.”

As a part of the recognition, Carmigo is featured in the April issue of Auto Fin Journal and will be recognized at the April 19 Auto Intel Summit in Raleigh, N.C. Our CFO, Daniel Kim, is going to be there to accept the recognition and speak on a panel.

We’ll leave you with one more quote from the kind folks at Cherokee Media Group:

“The 2023 Emerging 8 honorees are making significant contributions to the automotive industry through their innovative use of technology,” said Amanda Dunlap, EVP of events and marketing at Cherokee Media Group. “We are proud to recognize their ingenuity and we look forward to celebrating their success at this year’s Auto Intel Summit.”

The award is given annually to companies selected from a candidate pool nominated by industry leaders.

“Being named an Emerging 8 company is special to us because it reflects our mission,” said Andrew Warmath, Carmigo founder, and CEO. “We have the words ‘Make it easy’ covering a wall in our office because we want to use our technology to make buying and selling cars easier. Used Car Prices Positioned to Stabilize as Sales Increase

We could see used car prices level out for the next month or so thanks to rising demand, falling supply, and very expensive new cars.

Used car market sees rising demand and falling supply.

You can’t even give away a used Tesla in this market.

Plus, trucks are hot, mustangs are cool, and buyers are tired of fancy cars — or expensive cars.

Used Car Prices are Down, but Sales are Up.

Used car sales are still climbing while new car prices stay high. And in another piece of good news for sellers, used car inventory is falling pretty quickly. That means we could see used car prices level out for the next month or so.

Used Cars sales started 2023 strong, showing a 13% increase over the beginning of 2023.

And that trend is followed by another piece of good news for sellers: a drop in used car inventory. The average list price has dropped but is still historically pretty high.

Used Car Prices on the Carmigo Marketplace

On the Carmigo Marketplace, we’re still seeing some of our sellers’ expectations coming in higher than what buyers are willing to pay. But we also saw a flurry of increased activity in March, which could be in response to the nationwide drop in used car inventory.

Plus New Car Prices are still high, even though it seems those prices topped out and may begin declining soon.  The average new price is now $47,32. But new car prices will likely only decline slightly and slowly. So used car prices could still see some stability in the coming months.

The Manheim used car index showed that pickup trucks were the only market class to see positive price changes compared with last year (nearly 1%). Most value losses were moderate (2% or less), but vans saw a 3.6% loss in value, and luxury cars a 7.7% loss compared to last year.

5 Best Cars to Sell in April

Carmigo is bringing you the best-selling used cars for April (or at least our prediction). We’ve analyzed trends on our marketplace as well as the general car market and compared those with U.S. economic trends to help you decide if this is the month to sell your car, or if you should consider waiting.

Pickup trucks like this 2023 Ford F150 are some of the best selling cars in January. Pickup trucks like this 2023 Ford F150 are some of the best selling cars in March..

We sold well over half of the half-ton trucks (like the F150 and Silverado 1500) listed on the Carmigo platform in March, and that’s on the heels of a solid February for truck sales. This is welcome news to anyone who is trying to sell a truck, especially after gas prices tanked truck sales in 2022. We’ll also give the Tacoma an honorable mention here. Smaller trucks didn’t sell as well, but the Tacoma sold like hotcakes.

We sold more than 80% of the Chargers, Mustangs, and Challengers we listed in March. Sports cars have been on a roll lately, and we’re not 100% sure why — other than the fact that sports cars are cool. They always have been. They always will be. Vroom vroom.

Sporty cars like this Dodge Charger are some of the best selling cars in February.
Toyota Camry best cars to sell in october, best cars to sell in february

For the last two months, we’ve sold right at 75% of the Camrys listed on the Carmigo marketplace. Month over month, we list more and sell more Camrys than nearly any other car.

The reason is simple: You can’t beat the Camry. They hold value well and are always in fairly high demand because of their year-over-year reliability, fuel economy, and safety standards.

Corollas, Fortes, Sentras, Mirages — they all sold well last month. With car prices pretty high across the board, compact cars offer affordable and reliable transportation to so many Americans.

Toyota Camrys are some of the best selling used cars going into August.
The hyundai santa fe is one of the best cars to sell in april

The Hyundai Santa Fe is a popular car with favorable ratings. We sold more than 80% of the Santa Fes we listed last month, and it was the second-most listed model on the Marketplace in March. They did almost exactly as well in February

Worst Selling Used Cars

You've Got the Red Light

Photo depicting each of the Tesla models on offer, from left to right a silver Model S, a red Model 3, a white Model X, and a blue Model Y.

I would bet half of Tesla owners owe more on their car than it’s currently worth because of price cuts to new Teslas.

Tesla slashed new car prices to start 2023, so most Tesla buyers are opting to get a new model since it’s cheaper in some cases. iSeeCars reported a nearly 5 percent drop in used Tesla values following the price cut announcements.

Half-ton pickup trucks are selling great right now. They’re depreciating slower than other body types, and they’re selling across makes and models. At the same time, new small trucks are some of the most affordable vehicles, so there is less interest in small trucks. Ford Maverick sellers are simply victims of reasonable new Maverick prices and the popularity of larger trucks.

Ford Maverick
Trucks like this 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD are not among the best selling cars in April.

Heavy-duty trucks saw a pretty high gap between what sellers were expecting and what buyers were willing to offer. It would seem most buyers interested in trucks are simply opting for the half-ton. These trucks also fall into the expensive vehicle category, which hasn’t done as well in recent months.

Of the 10 most expensive cars bid on last month (based on highest average max bid), only 20% were sold. That’s well below average for the Carmigo Marketplace.

Jeeps like this 2022 Wrangler Sahara are not some of the best selling cars in April

Wranglers sell well and consistently. But this month, we only saw 25% of the listed Wranglers sell. That’s not to say we didn’t sell any, the total number of listings was high. If you’re trying to sell a Wrangler, there are probably bluer skies ahead.

The Best Way to Sell Your Green-Light Car

Shameless Plug: A lot of these price trends are based on the Carmigo Marketplace data. Carmigo is a one-of-a-kind platform that lets private car owners sell their used cars to dealerships.

Note: These predictions are simply that: predictions. We cannot tell the future. They are based on trends we’ve seen in the marketplace but are not a guarantee of future market outcomes.

Should I Buy This Car? Always Check Recalls Before Buying A Used Car

If you're wondering, "Should I buy this car," checking the model's recall history could help you decide if it's got a history of issues.

Find out which models have the most concerns before choosing your next used car.

Table of Contents

Should I buy this car?

Recalls are an important tool to keep car owners safe, but they can also serve as a great research tool for anyone purchasing a used car.

Recalls can alert you to serious issues associated with your desired car before you purchase. Make an informed decision and always check recalls before buying a used car. If the owner had the issue fixed, you may be in the clear. Either way, it’s important to ask.

Whats a recall?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a recall occurs when a manufacturer or the NHTSA determines that a vehicle or parts of the vehicle, like the equipment, car seat, or tires are failing to meet minimum safety standards.

When a recall is conducted, manufacturers of the vehicle can remedy the situation through repairs, replacements, refunds, and even repurchasing the entire vehicle.

Should I buy this car that’s been recalled?

Automobiles have a lot of moving parts, and any number of these parts can malfunction or pose a risk of injury.

But that’s why manufacturers issue recalls, so they can fix those parts. Manufacturers want you to be safe because their reputation is on the line, if for no other reason.

So a recall could simply be a great way to begin a conversation about vehicle maintenance with the current owner of the car you’re interested in buying.

According to Hot Cars, one of the biggest recalls in GM history was regarding corrosion on tailgate cables. Sometimes recalls can be for simple things like the recall on Honda cars for seatbelts. Other times they can be responses to horrific incidents like Toyota’s unintended acceleration problems or faulty ignition switches on Fords causing spontaneous combustion.

Recalls are usually in response to reported issues by consumers. In the best cases, they are done before much damage is done, but sometimes they are in response to issues that spiral out of control. In 2014, GM recalled around 30 million vehicles in the wake of unfathomable consequences.

It’s important to research your vehicle before purchasing. If you find out your manufacturer doesn’t have a great reputation, you might be better off looking elsewhere. Try to have a general idea of what vehicles are reliable and which ones aren’t.

What are the most reliable vehicles?

According to consumer reports analyzed by USA Today, the top ten most reliable automotive brands for 2023 are as follows:

  • Toyota
  • Lexus
  • BMW
  • Mazda
  • Honda
  • Audi
  • Subaru
  • Acura
  • Kia
  • Lincoln

Some car models that prove reliable include:

  • 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid
  • 2023 Lexus GX
  • 2023 Mini Cooper
  • 2022 Toyota Prius
  • 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata
  • 2023 Lincoln Corsair
  • 2023 Toyota Corolla
  • 2023 Subaru Crosstrek
  • 2023 BMW 3 Series
  • 2022 Toyota Prius Prime

What are the least reliable vehicles?

In terms of cars on the market right now, there are several that you might want to look into first. Forbes lists 10 automakers with the most significant recall campaigns of 2022.

  • Ford initiated 67 recalls totaling 8,636,265 units
  • Volkswagen initiated 45 recalls totaling 1,040,885 units
  • Fiatt-Chrysler/Stellantis initiated 38 recalls totaling 3,041,431 units
  • Mercedes-Benz initiated 33 recalls totaling 969,993 units
  • General Motors initiated 32 recalls totaling 3,371,302 units
  • Kia initiated 24 recalls totaling 1,458,962 units
  • Hyundai initiated 22 recalls totaling 1,452,101 units
  • Tesla initiated 20 recalls totaling 3,769,581 units
  • BMW initiated 19 recalls totaling 1,000,455 units
  • Nissan initiated 15 recalls totaling 1,568,385 units

USA Today also lists a few car models in 2023 that aren’t the most reliable:

  • 2023 Jeep Wrangler
  • 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE
  • 2022 Jeep Gladiator
  • 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500
  • 2022 Chevrolet Bolt
  • 2022 Ford Explorer
  • 2022 Nissan Sentra
  • 2022 Lincoln Aviator
  • 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric

How to check for recalls?

The next time you’re wondering, “Should I buy this car?” take a moment to check the reacal history. If you’re wondering how to check for a recall, you’re on the right track. It’s easy to figure this information out, the first step is locating your 17-digit VIN. You can usually find this on the outside of your car on the bottom driver’s side windshield. Then use the NHTSA Safety Issues & Recalls tool to see if there are any open recalls on your vehicle.

O’Rourke will help Carmigo expand its nationwide network of dealership and wholesale partners and allow them to sell inventory on Carmigo’s marketplace alongside consumer cars.

“I am looking forward to getting back on the auction side of the automotive industry, especially with Carmigo, who is bringing innovative ways to buy and sell inventory from both dealerships and consumers,” O’Rourke said. “After working with ACV in the early years opening 50+ markets, I am excited to help Carmigo build out its dealer-to-dealer program and make acquiring inventory simple and easy.”

With her previous experience at ACV and A2Z Sync, Susan O’Rourke will be working to further build the sales and support organization for current and new dealership and wholesale partners at Carmigo.  She will also work to expand Carmigo’s marketplace coverage through key partnerships.
